Counting down to Antarctica!

All in – in just eight days I leave Australia for the rest of 2024! It’s going to be an amazing adventure jam packed with new people, new learnings, and lots and lots of new experiences.

The core of this adventure is the Homeward Bound program Voyage to Antarctica with 98 women from 18 countries. Homeward Bound is a global leadership development initiative of women leaders in STEMM, with the voyage to Antarctica (and the Falkland Islands and South Georgia) providing a rare and remote wilderness to inspire leaders to act for a sustainable future and bond in a unique way.

“The women represent the diversity, initiative, bravery and collaboration
that is championed at Homeward Bound.”https://homewardboundprojects.com.au/

I was selected to be a part of the Homeward Bound 7 program in 2022 (#teamHB7), and participated in the online year long leadership development program. The culmination of this program will be sharing knowledge and bonding with the amazing leaders on the voyage who come from so many diverse backgrounds with varied experiences.
20 days on a boat with 97 women I’ve never met before is a little daunting, but it will be a great experience of norming and storming, with limited room for avoidance which I usually gravitate towards. Development, here we come.

A quote shared by Homeward Bound that I printed and stuck in my diary 4 years ago when I first set my mind to being a part of this adventure

After the voyage we return to Southern Argentina, and I’ll then tour on up to Buenos Aires and Brazil to reconnect with Rotary exchange student friends from Norway 2012 and see the big cities, then jump over to the amazon and Galapagos in Ecuador, and finish with some quality cenote diving in Mexico.

What an adventure! It’s coming up quick now! Here we come.
